Eight Students Inducted Into Social Work Honor Society

Before applying to transfer to Social Work, Temple students must attend a Change of Program session. These are explained on the College of Public Health web site under Academic Advising and Student Resources. Transfer applications will not be processed until the student attends the Change of Program session. Students will be notified of the decision regarding their request to change majors to Social Work in an e-mail from the university. Dean’s List – Each fall and spring semester, those undergraduates who have met the credit hour and academic criteria for their school or college are placed on the Dean’s List.

The WCU chapter of Phi Alpha sets its own standards for eligibility in accordance with the criteria of the national organization. The Western Michigan University Master of Social Work Student Organization was established in 1969. Since then, the organization has dealt with the problems and issues that have confronted and affected social work students at Western Michigan University. The organization also acts as a liaison between students and faculty. The officers conduct the meetings, record the minutes, and represent student concerns. The meetings are open to all M.S.W. students and membership has no requirement other than being a student in the M.S.W. curriculum.

The activity level of these groups varies from year to year since their existence is dependent on students stepping forward and organizing meetings and events. Phi Alpha, an internationally-recognized organization, promotes humanitarian goals and ideals in the field of social work. Must be currently enrolled in the graduate social work program. Members of the Social Work Student Council have input on a variety of policies related to academics and student affairs. Student council members are selected each year by a committee of faculty members from the Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work programs.

The primary role is to administer the implementation of course, curriculum and college objectives for the MSW program. The committee recommends curriculum changes to the faculty and other changes to improve or enhance the program of study. The Dr. Robert Green Just Research Award, formerly the Just Research Fund, was established by Dr. Robert Green and his wife, Frances.

The motto of Alpha Delta Mu Social Work Honor Society is “Advocate of the People”. The purpose of Alpha Delta Mu is to advance excellence in social work practice and to encourage, stimulate, and maintain scholarship of the individual members in all fields. Senior Social Work majors with a 3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average are eligible to join Alpha Delta Mu Social Work Honor Society. Students may join the organization at any time during the year by contacting SWSA’s Recruitment Committee Chair or Treasurer.

Dr. Eli DeHope The Active Minds is a mental health advocacy group that provides support and information to the West Chester University student population about the emotional needs of college students. Each year The Blues Society organizes and hosts a day devoted to mental health with helpful and informative programs for the students and community of West Chester. In addition, students are encouraged and supported to submit proposals to present at local and national social work conferences.
